Yesterday morning, Naza Primera Sdn Bhd, official distributor of Vespa scooters in Malaysia, unveiled the latest Vespa S125 for the local market, at Garage KL.
“The Vespa S125 embodies the heritage of legendary models from the 70’s, such as the Vespa 50 Special and the Vespa Primavera, offering a trip down a the memory lane.” said Datuk Wira SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin, Group Executive Chairman of Naza World Group of Companies.
“It is the sportiest and most youthful Vespa’s ‘small body’ available. The lines express dynamic character and youth, with their clean and essential, but definitely spirited, sections. It is a Vespa that makes minimalist design its distinguishing feature in order to definitively win the approval of the young enthusiasts.” Datuk Wira SM Faisal added.
Powering the Vespa S125 is a new 124cc, 4-stroke, 3-valve mill that makes 11.6hp/10.7Nm, that is optimized for performance while keeping low fuel consumption and emissions. The engine’s bore and stroke values are now reduced and increased respectively to provide better torque and acceleration response. Vespa says the 3-valve timing solution improves intake and increases engine efficiency with innovative timing system that improves fuel mixture loading movements in the cylinder. This is then further refined by a new spark plug position that simultaneously ensures improved cooling of the head. All this while simplifying maintenance.
The cooling system went through careful analysis wth thermo fluid dynamic simulations to improve performance and obtain significant reduction in mechanical noise and absorbed power. The fuel injection system features a continuous cycle automatic idle management and continuous cycle fuel mixture management with the introduction of an efficient Lambda probe and a latest generation ECU that takes care of managing advance mapping, fuel mixture and timing.
There’s also a new free-wheel electric starter that is more quiet and efficient, an automatic dry centrifugal clutch that has been calibrated to maximise performance and fuel economy at low speeds. The 3V system weighs less than its 2V predecessor and provides clear improvement of performance with maximum power improved by 7.1 percent and increased maximum torque by 10.3 percent. Acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h drops 2 percent and top speed is increased by 2.2 percent. Despite the significant performance enhancements, fuel economy is drastically improved 30 precent from the previous 55 km/l to 50 km/l.
The Vespa S125 features a square headlight, more decisive looking mudguards and saddle profile that are key features which go extremely well with the red shock absorbers and new instrument panel graphics. It also has a new mask located on the front shield as well as the ‘tie’ which distinguishes all new generation Vespa. The horn guard on the shield and the crest on the front mudguard forgoes the elegant chromium finish, taking on a much more aggressive black colour, with the five-spoke wheel rims in the same hue. There’s also new guard located on the footboard which comes embellished with the Vespa logo.
Five colours are offered: Taormina (Orange), Rosso Dragon (Red), Nero Vulcano (Black), Monte Bianco (White) and Grigio Titanio (Matte Grey).
For Malaysia, the new Vespa S125 is priced at RM10,988 which includes a two-year manufacturer warranty and a one year AAM Bike Assists membership. To sweeten the deal, the first 70 units of the Vespa S125 will be delivered with a limited edition decal.
