Audi Malaysia have finally announced the availability of the ninth-generation Audi A4 earlier today. The new car is said to combine progressive aesthetics, athletic engines and cutting-edge technology. The A4 have been Audi’s best selling model of all time and the new caris set to once again redefine the rules of its segment.
At launch time, the new A4 will only be available in 2.0 TFSI guise -good for 190hp/320Nm and mated to a seven speed S-tronic gearbox. The century sprint is completed in a modest 7.3 seconds, with a top speed of 240km/h. Audi claims the new car has a combined fuel consumption rating of just 5.0 litres/100km and a CO2 emissions rating of 114g/km. Its side mirrors now sit on the shoulders of the car instead of previously on the A-pillar, similar to the TT and R8 models, resulting in a class-leading 0.23 drag coefficient value.
The all-new A4 is a handsome car in the flesh and is bigger than its predecessor: 25mm in length and 16mm in width, and weighing some 120kg lighter, thanks in part to clever use of materials and lightweight design. It is build on the MLD-Evo platform that also underpins the Audi Q7 SUV; the new chassis works in tandem with its electromechanical power steering system and newly developed five-link adaptive comfort suspension system with damper control to filter out road unevenness for passengers, but without sacrificing optimal driver feedback.
On the inside, the new cabin is noticeable driver focused and more expansive than before. At the center of the dashboard, you get MMI® radio plus, which features a fixed 7-inch screen and the Audi sound system with 6-channel amplifiers and 10 loudspeakers that puts out 180 watts. From the cockpit, the driver gets a sporty 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and ticking the Technology package box gets you the 12.3-inch virtual cockpit.
Standard tech includes Audi driver select, similar to other Audi models offered in Malaysia, and which allows adjustments of suspension, engine and drivetrain settings to suit the driver’s preference. You also get the standard host of safety wizardry including an engine start/stop system with energy recuperation, ESC, traction control, EBD, electronic differential lock (EDL), ABS, parking aid and a total of 6 airbags.
Available as optional extras are two packages: S-line package and Technology package. The S-line package will cost RM25,000 and improves overall aesthetics with more aggressive front and rear bumpers, 18″ 5-twin spoke alloys, illuminated front door sills with aluminum inlays, Alcantara sports seats, S-line steering wheel and several other sporty features. At press time, no price has been mentioned yet for the Technology package, but that will add Matrix LED headlamps with dynamic indicators at the front, MMI® Navigation plus with MMI touch, Audi virtual cockpit, Audi smartphone interface for Apple Carplay and Android Auto, Audi connect and a rear view camera.
Like we mentioned above, the new A4 will only be available with the 2.0 TFSI engine in a choice of ten colours at time of launch (the awesome Daytona Grey only available for cars with S-line package) and at all dealerships from RM248,900. Those keen should place their orders early, because the first 100 cars will be sold at a special introductory price of RM239,900 – same price as the outgoing model. Audi Malaysia says that they will introduce a entry level 1.4 TFSI and a performance oriented 2.0 TFSI quattro variant by January 2017.
