Volkswagen brings in MK7.5 Golf – now open for booking!

We’ve been waiting for this for a long time and today is finally the day. Yes, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) are now accepting bookings for the new Golf variants – Golf TSI in Sportline and R-Line trim, the iconic Golf GTI, and the manic Golf R. Earlier this morning, the Malaysian motoring fraternity were invited to view the collection of Golfs.

Launched in 1974, the Golf is the Volkswagen brand’s most successful model, and has played a major role in the automotive industry by setting standards in the compact class and pioneering the advancement of leading vehicle technologies. It has won numerous awards, including “Compact Family Car of the Year” by UK’s Auto Express, and “Best Small Car” in the 2017 Daily News Autos Award.

The new MK7.5 Golf retains the charisma of past models. Think of this as a mid-life facelift which brings updated bumpers, LED headlights and tail lights, as well as a refreshed interior.

Mr Erik Winter, Managing Director of VPCM is confident that the new Golf family will be well-received in Malaysia as it already has a strong local following. “With the introduction of four variants, there is a Golf for everyone. We are certain that the range will fulfil the expectations and desires of Golf fans here in Malaysia,“ he added.

Both the Golf TSI Sportline and R-Line share the same 1.4 liter turbocharged engine, mated to a seven speed dry clutch DSG making 150 PS and 250 Nm, between 1,500 rpm to 3,500 rpm. Differentiating the R-Line are ‘Vienna’ leather seats, 17″ Singapore alloy wheels, 12.3″ Active Info Display, 8.0″ composition media with App-Connect as well as LED headlights with Static and Dynamic cornering lights.

To maintain the namesake of Ultimate Hot-Hatch, the Golf GTI features a new 2.0 liter turbocharged engine, paired to a six speed wet clutch DSG and with outputs of 230 PS and 350 Nm, between 1,500 to 4,600 rpm. The GTI comes with perforated ‘Vienna’ leather seats with contrast stitching in red, 18″ Milton Keynes alloys, 12.3″ Active Info Display, 8.0″ Discover Media with App-Connect, LED headlights with Dynamic and Static cornering lights, LED tail lights with dynamic indicators and Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) with driver mode selection.

As a true performance powerhouse, powering the Golf R is a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine mated to a seven speed wet clutch DSG. Output is an impressive 290 PS and 380 Nm, between 2,000 to 5,400 rpm, further enabled with 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. On the inside, there are R ‘Vienna’ perforated seats, 19″ Pretoria alloys, 12.3″ Active Info Display, 9.2″ Discover Pro with App-Connect and Gesture Control, LED headlights with Dynamic Cornering Lights, LED tail lights with Dynamic Indicators, and progressive steering.
